من اول من فكر ببناء السد العالي
السد العالي هو سد مائي على نهر النيل في جنوب مصر تحديدا في مدينة أسوان تم البدء في تأسيسه في عهد الرئيس الراحل جمال عبد الناصر وساعد في بناءه الإتحاد السوفييتي وكان أيضا ممن لهم دور في المساعدة ملك المغرب والرئيس السوري شكري القوتلي وفكرة السد قائمة على التحكم في سريان المياه والتخفيف من آثار الفيضانات ويستخدم في عملية توليد الكهرباء وحجم جسم السد ثلاثة وأربعون مليون متر مكعب وقد وصلت التكلفة الإجمالية وقتها لإنشائه مليار دولار وقد شارك الإتحاد السوفيتي وقتها بثلث التكلفة وتم الإنتهاء من بنائه في عام ألف وتسعمائة وثمانية وستون وتم إفتتاحه في
عهد الرئيس محمد أنور السادات في عامألف وتسعمائة واحد وسبعون و الجدير بالذكر أن الحسن بن الهيثم هو أول من أشار ببناء السد العالي ولكن لم تتح له تنفيذ فكرته لعدم توافر المعدات اللازمة لبناء السد وقتها وبناء السد له آثار إيجابية وسلبية فمن آثاره الإيجابية حمى مصر من كثير من الفيضانات المدمرة والجفاف ايضا يحث تقوم بحيرة ناصر بالتخزين للمياه وإستخدامها في فترة الجفاف وعمل ذلك على توسع المساحة الأرضية المزروعة نتيجة توافر المياه مما أتاح الزراع ثلاث مرات سنويا ومن آثاره السلبية أن بحيرة ناصر أغرقت كثيرا من القرى النوبية مما أدي إلى تشريد وهجرة أهلها مما سمي بالهجرة النوبية ومازالت حتى الآن مشاكل النوبة مع الحكومات المصرية لم تحل وأيضا من آثاره السلبيية حرمان نهر النيل من الطمي الناتج عن الفيضان وأدي إلى تآكل شواطيء الدلتا وعمليات النحر للمنشآت النهرية وأيضا كمية التبخر التي
تحدث في بحيرة ناصر حيث أنها مساحة واسعة مفتوحة معرضة لدرجات حرارة عالية في الجنوب مما يؤدي إلى عمليات تبخر عالية مما يهدر الكثير من المياه وقدر العلماء كمية المياه المهدرهة بأنها تساوي حصة العراق في نهر الفرات ولكن يبقي طبقا للإحصائيات الهندسية العالمية أن مشروع السد العالي هو أعلى مشروع هندسي في القرن العشرين وقد تفوق على مشاريع كثيرة جدا لما عاد بفائدة كبيرة من إنشائه حيث وفر لمصر رصيدها الإستراتيجي من المياه التي كانت تذهب هدرا في البحر الأبيضالمتوسط
